Sassafrass came to Longmeadow when she was only days old, arriving alongside her mom and not quite sure how she felt about humans. From the start, she had that unmistakable Saddlebred presence. She was bright, expressive, and just a little dramatic in the most adorable way. As a young Saddlebred, she is full of curiosity, and while her eyes may look big at times, itâs simply part of her endearing, animated personality.As sheâs grown, Sassafrass has worked hard on her baby basics. She had to learn all about groundwork and halter training, and she picked up on her lessons very quickly. Sass is a smart girl who enjoys having a job to do. She now understands leading cues for walking forward, halting, and backing up, and she has learned to stand politely for the farrier. In fact, she proudly ground ties while being trimmed, a big accomplishment for a young horse. She truly enjoys the company of people; although she may be a bit hesitant when first meeting someone new, she warms up quickly once she feels comfortable.Like any young horse, Sassafrass is still working on a few skills. Our groundwork team is currently teaching Sass how to stand nicely for the vet, specifically when getting vaccines, and accepting dewormer and other medications orally. She gets along well with both mares and geldings and even lived with mini equine while growing up at the Ranch. She is a sociable filly by nature.
